Evaluation of peripapillary area and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness using OCT angiography in diabetic retinopathy

Background: It has been believed that diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular disorder. Recent research linked DR to both neuronal and processes. The purpose of this was use optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) compare the thickness peripapillary area retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) in different stages.Methods: This cross-sectional controlled carried out on 40 subjects Cases were subdivided into four equal groups: diabetes mellitus (DM) group (having no DR) non-proliferative (NPDR) group, proliferative (PDR) controls: healthy persons (Healthy eyes with evidence diseases affecting macula or optic nerve. Duration diabetics not less than 5 years HbA1c level (5-6%).Results: Significant difference observed regarding disease duration, Vessel density (VD) between NPDR, PDR controls, Thickness PRNFL (overall segmental) Diabetes groups (DM-NPDR-PDR) controls. A significant decrease VD disc pRNFL among DM compared Insignificant age, sex, side. negative correlation severity pRNFL.Conclusions: As worsened, number radial capillaries retina dropped.
